High Street Primary School Parent Council (PTA)

Welcome to the High Street Primary School Parent Council Page!  This page aims to provide all the information needed to understand the ways in which parents can support our school.

Our Parent Council is made up of volunteer parents who form our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and also our Parent Voice forum.

The PTA

The High Street Primary School PTA is made up of volunteer parents and teachers who work hard fundraising to support the education of our children, by providing and assisting in the provision of facilities at the school.

Our PTA has two main objectives;

  • to enhance relationships between the staff, parents and others associated with the school.
  • to engage in activities which raise funds to support the school and our children.  

What does your PTA do?

To achieve the aims set out above we organise a variety of events throughout the school year that raise funds.

Examples of past events are; Christmas crafts and Christmas Fayre, discos, second-hand uniform sales, summer tip-top shop, Cinema at the Memo events and the Summer

Fayre.

During the last academic year (2017/18) the PTA;

Held 5 main events, and our parents donated a huge £2300!

These funds were used to purchase reading resources and providing the whole school with a pantomime treat for Christmas.

Each year the fundraising priorities of the PTA are agreed and set out in conjunction with the Head Teacher and members of the PTA. This information will be available on the website. Fundraising priorities are subject to review dependant on changes in perceived need throughout the school and our Head Teacher will communicate and agree changes to how the funds raised are distributed with the Chair and members of the PTA.

Why get involved?

Maybe your looking for a way to be more involved with our school, or maybe you have skills and hobbies you would enjoy volunteering to support your child’s school life. There is, in our opinion, no better way to get involved in such a direct, hands on way than joining the PTA!

Membership of our PTA is open, and indeed automatic. All parents of children at the school, staff, representatives of the school and its associated bodies are welcome to become active members

Meetings held two or three times per term and all are welcome to attend.

The Parent Voice

“Empowering parents to help drive excellence”

(mission statement).

Our Parent Voice was set up in 2018 following an initial survey which considered methods of increasing communication between parents and our school. It is designed to be parent-friendly and is a great opportunity to become more involved in, and more informed about, the decisions which affect your child’s school.

Our Parent Voice aims to:

  • Work in partnership with the school to be a platform of open feedback to support school policy and decision making.
  • Support a school which is welcoming, inclusive and supportive of all parents.
  • Be positive and empowering in our approach to Parent Voice discussions.
  • Represent the view of all parents in our respective year groups.

Our Parent Voice is not –

  • A complaints forum. Official channels for complaints exist outside of this forum.

Being part of the Parent Voice

All parents of children at High Street Primary School are automatically members of the Parent Voice, and are entitled to have a say in what happens at the school. 

To be an effective forum the Parent Voice aims to have at least one representative per year group. We always welcome new members who wish to support the continuing improvement of learning experiences and opportunities for our children.  

Current Parent Voice representatives will be displayed on the school’s website.

Meetings are held at the school on the third Tuesday of each new term. Dates for this years meetings are set as –

Tuesday 18th September 2018 at 6 – 7.30pm

Tuesday 22nd January 2019 at 6 – 7.30pm

Tuesday 14th May 2019 at 6 – 7.30pm

How do we aim to represent all parents’ views?

Parents will be notified of topics for discussion at the next meeting via the school newsletter and website. Each class representative is available for any parent to share ideas/opinions and suggestions which will then be fed into the forum.

Minutes from the meeting, outlining the outcome of discussions, are available on the school website or from the school office.
